Providing counselling support in Bathurst and throughout the Central West of NSW
At Tranquil Minds, we support people experiencing hoarding behaviours, chronic disorganisation, and difficulty maintaining a safe, functional living space. Whether you’re seeking help for yourself or supporting a loved one, we offer respectful, trauma-informed care that focuses on connection, not control.
What Is Hoarding?
Hoarding disorder is a recognised mental health condition where a person has persistent difficulty discarding or parting with possessions — regardless of their actual value — due to a strong perceived need to save them. This often leads to:
Clutter that severely limits the use of living spaces
Distress or anxiety at the thought of discarding things
Difficulty organising, prioritising, or categorising items
Conflict with loved ones about the state of the home
Importantly, hoarding is not about messiness, laziness, or stubbornness — it’s often linked to trauma, grief, neurodivergence (like ADHD or autism), mental health struggles, or past deprivation.
What Is Chronic Disorganisation?
Chronic disorganisation is different from occasional mess or a busy week. It’s an ongoing struggle to keep up with organising, sorting, and maintaining your space, even after trying various methods. It may look like:
Repeated cycles of tidying followed by overwhelm
Paper piles, unopened mail, or unsorted belongings
Losing items frequently, missing deadlines or appointments
Feeling constantly behind, stuck, or frustrated
People living with chronic disorganisation may or may not meet the criteria for hoarding disorder. Either way, they often feel embarrassed, misunderstood, or unsupported — especially if traditional organising methods haven’t worked.
Why Can’t I Just Clean It Up?
If you’ve asked yourself this question, you’re not alone.
Hoarding and chronic disorganisation are not solved by a checklist, a storage container, or a single “big clean.” They’re complex, often lifelong patterns shaped by a person’s history, mental health, environment, and nervous system.
Many people experiencing these issues also struggle with:
Executive functioning challenges (like those seen in ADHD)
Anxiety, depression, or trauma
Grief or loss
Decision fatigue or perfectionism
Shame that makes asking for help feel impossible
What’s needed isn’t judgment — it’s compassionate, consistent, skilled support.
Our focus is on sustainable, collaborative change
That means:
Respecting your pace and priorities
Offering emotional and practical support
Helping you build long-term skills, not short-term fixes
If your goal is to live more comfortably, more safely, or with less shame — we can help you get there, one step at a time.
At Tranquil Minds, we offer a range of supports to meet people where they’re at — with no pressure, no shame, and no forced clean-ups.
Our approach includes:
Psychoeducation — Understanding the “why” behind hoarding behaviours
Counselling — Working through grief, trauma, anxiety, or overwhelm
Skills-building — Decision-making, sorting, prioritising, and emotional regulation
In-home or virtual support options (depending on need and location)
Harm-reduction strategies — Focusing on safety, dignity, and what matters most to you
We know every person is different. That’s why we don’t start with “decluttering” — we start with a conversation.
We support:
Adults living with hoarding or chronic disorganisation
Carers and family members trying to support a loved one
NDIS participants with psychosocial, neurological, or cognitive needs
Tenants navigating housing safety concerns or support plans
People who have “tried everything” but still feel stuck
No matter where you're starting from, we’re here to help.
